The Korean roommate's always been kinda stupid. He'll spill stuff and leave it (two day old dried jam on the counter? *not* an easy clean). He'll leave the door wide open on -30 degree days. He'll burn stuff almost every time he cooks (keep this in mind, it's important!).

But in the past week or so he's just gone for the all out moron-of-the-year award. He has:

1. Burnt a pot worse than I've ever seen. Like, this isn't burnt on food at the bottom of the pot, it's the bottom of the pot scorched black. There are scorch marks on the oustide too. It looks as though that pot has been *in* a fire.

2. Turned the heat up to 28 degree celsius. He did this, on the hottest day in 5 months (it was 17 degrees celsius outside). He hasn't touched it all Winter, but decided the hottest day in forever deserved extremely high heat in here. The high heat and furnace running for hours screwed up the circulation fan which the landlord is now trying to fix.

3. He came upstairs while me and Cait were playing a game in my room. I remarked to myself "Woah, I just heard Korean empty the dishwasher!" Later that night I went out to the kitchen and remembered that fact and checked the dishwasher. He had emptied *just enough* clean things so that he had room to put his dirty stuff in. And this wasn't a mistake where he thought everything was dirty -- he actually took stuff out of the dishwasher and put them back in their proper place.

4. Tonight me and Cait were playing wow again and we heard a loud beeping. Sounded like a smoke alarm but I went down to the kitchen and the sound got quieter. I stuck my head downstairs and it got louder so I assumed Korean was screwing around with a new laptop alarm or something and couldn't shut it off. We tried to ignore for a minute or so when I thought "Uh oh! Maybe him fucking with the heat so much has set off the Carbon Monoxide detector!" I ran downstairs and checked but nope. So I investigated and found out that in his bathroom, near the outside window, it was the loudest: it was coming from outside. I go upstairs to the backdoor and look up at where the kitchen detector should've been to see that it had been ripped out of the ceiling at some point, which would explain why I haven't heard it go off lately when he's burned something. I open the backdoor, and there on the ground is the new smoke detector that landlord installed last month, soaking wet in the rain and going off because it had shorted out.

Yeah, this guy should have died in some sort of stupid accident long ago. Like, that level of stupidity has no place in the world and should not be encouraged to do anything other then go live in a cave alone forever for fear of passing on genes or poor teachings...

I did this back in the day but it's fun, and Mike did it, so I'm doing it.

1. The title of a random Wikipedia article is the name of your band.
2. The last 4 or 5 words of the last quote in your list of random quotes is the name of your album.
3. The third picture on this flickr page is your album cover.
4. 30 seconds in the GIMP (or Photoshop if you suck)

I'm pretty bored, this meme's making the rounds again and I always enjoy it.

1. Put your iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. on shuffle.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS.
4. Tag as many friends.
5. Everyone tagged has to do the same thing.

I'm not tagging people, I don't bother with that )

To drop my Fan Fiction class or not...

I don't *need* the credit, it was just something to take to have 5 courses so that I felt like I wasn't wasting money. And it's writing, which I like. But the negatives are that it's Wednesday nights which sucks because a) it's a night class, and b) it conflicts with Lost's timeslot. Looking through the course outline, which I finally found, it also doesn't seem like a great class. Basically near the start of the course we have to pick a fan fiction canon and research it. That canon is then what we'll use for all future reports, "dabbles," missing scenes, and our final project. The catch though is our second assignment, which is "Canon Report - Group Presentation." If we have to choose a canon to do *as a group* it's likely to suck. Everyone's going to be relatively younger than me, and so I can likely see the popular choices being Twilight, Gossip Girls, Harry Potter, and so forth. While I don't entirely know what canon I'd like to do (Buffy, Lost, and X-Files are obvious choices), I do know I don't want to go anywhere near most of today's young adult stuff. Plus, it's a group presentation, which I hate.

Soooo, I guess I'll go to tomorrow night's class and see how it is, and if it's not absolutely amazing, it'll be dropped like a rock.

Just shovelled the driveway. It's snowing heavily, but it's the giant fluffy flakes that sort of take their time falling to the ground. It's freaking beautiful. I would kill to go to Victoria Park's New Year's Eve thingy tonight, bet it looks awesome with this snow and all the lights and such.

So it's been a year and a week or so since I last did a flight in my Cross-Canada in Flight Simulator I was doing. Since then I've gotten a new computer and it now runs even smoother and beautifully, so I'm going to pick it back up where I left off.

I'm preeeety sure my stats TA has it out for me. My prof a few weeks ago when we had class in the bar was talking to me, and said that the TA said I'd be doing better on my assignments but I'm way too terse in class/with the assignments.

My last couple assignments have been in the 60s, with bullshit comments on them. The one I picked up today I got a 62.5% on. The first comment was "Where's question 1???" Question 1 was "Perform the factor analysis." Was I supposed to write the number 1 and then say like, "Yup, I did?" or something? I don't appear to have lost a mark for not including, but the comment's still stupid.

I then get nailed for 1 mark out of 10, which equals 0.5% of my final mark a piece, on 3 of the 5 questions for not being elaborate enough. On the last question, which asked what the two best predictors of GPA were based on the regression we ran, I wrote that the two best predictors are intelligence and honesty, and therefore you can predict a person's GPA based on how intelligent and honest they were. "ELABORATE!" was the comment. Firstly, the question didn't ask *WHY* this is happened. Secondly, I feel that giving the stats that show it's the best predictor is explanation enough, especially when it's just an assignment where I don't know the background theory and so am now qualified to make random assumptions as to why certain factors may predict GPA better.

It may be a good thing that I'm thinking it's very unlikely I'm going to grad school, because this TA has essentialy sealed that fate. This class is one of the primary grades grad schools want to see. My only real hope is the exam which is worth 50%, but apparently it's designed to be extremely difficult and a significant number of people don't even finish it by the end of the three hours.

I haven't posted in forever and this isn't really going to be a catchup. Mostly I just want to complain about the exam I have in...under two hours now.

I took Bilingualism basically because the prof seemed to love me last year. I had one of, if not the highest mark in my class. But the subject matter is so not what I'm interested in. I got a 77% on the midterm, and I'm not sure this one'll be better. I feel a bit more confident after going over the notes I made but enh. We'll see what happens. This prof *was* going to be one of my references if I do apply to grad school in a year, but I'm not sure after this class :P

In other news, our Research in Social Psych prof sent us the class grades for the 70% of our mark that's been counted so far (just one paper left to grade). I'm 0.5% away from having the highest mark in the class. That hasn't happened since highschool, and it's sure as hell never happened in a class that's primarily participation, presentations, and short-to-long answer exams. I think I've finally come around to doing presentations. I can get up there and not use notes, even if I put the presentation together the night before, and I think I get big points right there. I always answers questions that are asked, even if it's simply somehow dodging the question and giving a BS answer that sounds real. Maybe I should run for office :P

After this exam I need to start looking for a topic for my Psychology of Medicine paper. My presentation was a broad overview of the field of Alternative Medicine, so for my paper I need to pick a much more narrow aspect of it to look into and use academic sources from PubMed and...the nursing one I can't think of the name of...CINAHL I think. Then a stats exam on Saturday. Woooo.
